Travels, springtime, growing, and harvest pt.1

The year looked promising, we were planning to go to the Philippines with our extended family, and it looked like it was gonna become a reality.  We were so excited, and started to count down immediately.  We had never been to the Philippines together before as a family, and we were so excited now to see all the places my husband had grown up in, played, went to school at, played in the sea and much more. We had all heard the stories over the years and now we were gonna see it for ourselves.

The day came and we were headed for the airport, a 12 hr drive ugh. We finally arrived at LAX and everyone was so excited. All the kids were so well behaved, and just ready to make memories. We finally got on the plane and got comfortable for the 13 hr flight to S Korea. I have to say that Asiana Airlines exceeded our expectations, it was comfortable, the staff was exceptional, and the food on board was really good.

Our flight to the Philippines from S Korea was only 4 hour long and the kids were getting so excited to finally be there. We landed, went through customs (took so long), got our luggage, and headed out. We had friends waiting for us outside, and we all drove together to our final destination.

It was definitely different than what we were used to, but we loved it already. It was crowded and busy, and messy in parts, but you were always greeted with a smile.

I was loving the food, the fresh fruits and vegetables, the vegetation, all the beautiful flowers, and fruits on the trees. I just wanted to stop the car and smell the flowers and eat the fruit right off the trees.

We stayed at a wonderful resort called Oldwoods By the Sea for a few days, they really did treat us like royalty, and it soon became everyone’s favourite place to stay. The best food, the best smoothies, and the best calamansi juice.

There were dragon fruit plants, huge Ylang-Ylang trees, flowering tropical plants, and endless number of trees and other plant life. The aroma from the plants mixed with the ocean air was so beautiful, it really did refresh your spirit.

We walked through a small local village and came across so many edible plants. It is so awesome to see all this growing wild in an abundance, sustaining life, and just adding such beauty to the landscape.

I loved trying new fruit while I was there, I was also so excited to try the fruit I already loved picked at its peak, not picked when it’s unripe to be shipped across the world, to ripen on its journey. I couldn’t imagine how good it would be, it absolutely exceeded my expectation.

We visited three different resorts while we were there, we also stayed with family while in Dagupan, and in an Airbnb while in Manila. I absolutely loved all of the different experiences we had while there, and I wouldn’t change anything about it, and I can’t wait to go back.

Thank you to the Filipino people for their awesome hospitality, a lot of people could learn a thing or two from them how to make people feel welcome.
